Bridal hen party jewellery workshop in Plymouth - Royal William Yard
bridal hen party workshop plymouth devon

I recently teamed up with haberdashery + workshop provider Make at 140 to teach a hen party workshop in Plymouth!

The bridal party wanted to make freshwater pearl and crystal bridal hair combs that they would wear on the big day. How exciting!

Well, I had never made a hair comb before, let alone taught somebody to make one! But when Lizzy from Make at 140 asked if I would be interested in teaching the workshop I was sure I could teach myself in time!

I started by Googling images of wedding hair accessories so that I could check what type of hair comb the bride would like, and then used YouTube to teach myself wire beading techniques. LOL. Honestly, I don’t use YouTube enough - there are so many useful tutorials on there, I’d recommend looking up WHATEVER you’re trying to learn and see what you can find next time!

On the day of the workshop we had a beautiful large workshop space at Ocean Studios in Royal William Yard, Plymouth. Lizzy had organised tea, coffee and fresh pastries for the group - and it was my lucky day because I got to snaffle the spare pastry! :p

The hen party all made a variation of the same style of hair comb, using a combination of grey and white freshwater pearls, glass crystals and silver wire.

You can see photos from the workshop below, including their finished bespoke wedding hair accessories! I think they did an amazing job!

Custom order: personalised bridal necklace with rose quartz pendant

In January I met with fabulously colourful knitwear designer Becky Dodman to discuss a commissioned wedding necklace. Becky LOVES colour (quite possibly even more than I do!), and had a list of elements she wanted included, like the cute lil robot for her now husband, a rose quartz arrow head, and lots of bright bold colours.

Well working on such a personal project is terrifying and exciting at the same time!! I was so honoured and touched that Becky had chosen me to create her necklace, and really wanted to create a piece that was as wonderful as she’d imagined.

We had decided on six different ‘straps’ or woven segments, and Becky wanted:

a robot
the words “kiss me'“
a love heart
diamonds / zigzags
the eye symbol
the word “Si”

And so I got busy designing patterns and ideas! I’ve shared some of the progress and design work below, alongside photographs from Becky’s big day.

Custom order: handmade personalised name bracelet
Personalised name bracelet handmade_web.jpg

Heyyy peeps!

Here’s a custom order I made last month at very short notice! I actually stayed up until 12.30am making it on the Saturday night after being up from 7am and at the Salcombe pop up shop all day too - but it was worth it!! :D

XO Acapulco in khaki and white

XO Acapulco in khaki and white

My customer wanted a special gift for a very special friend, and loved the idea of something customised especially for her. She wanted a personalised bracelet and loved the colours in the khaki XO Acapulco cuff because she said they would go with almost anything, from t-shirts to a dress. And to match the bracelet she asked for a pair of personalised earrings, with the initial A.

So I got busy!

First I had to order the super cute 24 carat gold plated initial charms. I am definitely going to order some teeny S for myself soon too!

Then I had to do the maths! Because the XO Acapulco cuff is so geometric I needed to work out the patterns exactly to the bead. And then design the font, fit the name in, decide the colours (this was quite fiddly too!)…you get the picture!

Then the beading began! I used rounded seed beads for the name ANOUD so that is slightly raised and stands out from the bracelet. The gold beads are electroplated 24 carat gold - ooh la la.

Fitted with the same khaki coloured teeny seed beads, the ‘A’ earrings will look wonderful over summer with a golden glow.

I hope Anoud was thrilled with her gift and the lovely sentiment behind it for her.

Do you think I should offer more custom name bracelets like this?
